Calcium Alginate Ag (Silver) Dressings

SKU: GEN-13220

Gentell Calcium Alginate Ag (Silver) Dressings feature a sterile, antimicrobial, comfortable, fiber-structured alginate with high absorbency. These advanced alginate dressings fight bacteria and a broad spectrum of microorganisms while absorbing and containing exudate in a moist healing environment. A steady release of silver and a reaction between the calcium in the dressing and the sodium in the wound exudate creates a gel that fights infection and is easy to remove from the wound.

Applying to Irregularly Shaped Wounds

For wounds that aren’t perfectly round or rectangular, these dressings are designed to fit the contours—simply fold, gently pack, or adapt the material so it comes into direct contact with the wound bed. Make sure the dressing fills crevices and tunnels as needed, but avoid overpacking to ensure optimal moisture balance and comfort.

Benefits of a Conformable Pad in Wound Care

A key advantage of these dressings is their flexibility—they easily mold to the body's contours, which makes them ideal for wounds in awkward or difficult-to-dress places. This adaptability helps maximize patient comfort and ensures complete coverage, even on uneven or irregularly shaped wounds.

High Absorbency: These pads can pull in and hold a remarkable amount of fluid—up to 20 times their weight—helping maintain a clean, moist environment that is conducive to faster healing.
Gel Formation for Protection: Upon contact with wound exudate, the pad transforms into a soft gel. This gel not only protects and cushions the wound bed but also helps promote autolytic debridement, making dressing changes more comfortable.
Ease of Use: Lightweight and easy to handle, conformable pads are simple to shape, tuck, or pack, making them suitable for a variety of wound types.
Works with Heavily Draining Wounds: Thanks to their impressive absorbency, they’re pads are especially useful for moderate to heavily draining wounds where moisture management is essential.
Requires a Secondary Dressing: For best results, always use a secondary dressing to secure the pad and manage exudate.

These features combine to make conformable Calcium Alginate pads a versatile and reassuring option in wound care, simplifying the dressing process for both medical professionals and patients.

Insurance and Reimbursement Information

For those seeking reimbursement, calcium alginate dressings are typically billed under HCPCS codes A6196 and A6197. Be sure to verify coverage criteria with your insurance provider or Medicare carrier prior to submission, as requirements may vary depending on the wound type and prescribed dressing.

Other Common Wound Care Options

In addition to calcium alginate dressings, a variety of other advanced wound care products are frequently used to support different healing needs. Depending on the wound type, exudate level, or desired treatment outcome, you may consider:

Collagen dressings: Promote the formation of new tissue and support the natural healing process, making them ideal for chronic or non-healing wounds.
Super Absorbent dressings: Provide gentle cushioning and maintain a moist environment, often chosen for wounds with moderate to heavy exudate.
Bordered gauze dressings: Secure the wound area and absorb moderate levels of drainage, while being easy to apply and remove.
Retention tapes or bandages: Help secure primary dressings in place, ensuring consistent coverage without restricting movement.
Wound care kits: These typically combine several products—like cleansers, alginate pads, and secondary dressings—into one convenient package for comprehensive wound management.

By understanding the benefits of each type of dressing, bandage, and kit, clinicians and caregivers can tailor wound management strategies to best support healing for each individual case.
