SITUATION
A full thickness/non-pressure wound was discovered on the right hip of a resident in a well-recognized US nursing home. The wound exhibited 100% granulated tissue and moderate serosanguineous exudate. The resident’s co-morbidities included dementia, hypertension, anemia, and history of pressure ulcer. The wound characteristics and comorbidities created a significant wound burden requiring advanced wound care rather than standard treatments to heal the wound.
SOLUTION
Gentell, a leading manufacturer of wound dressings and provider of wound care education, partnered with the facility to deliver products, educational services and clinical insights to improve the patient’s outcome while lowering overall treatment costs for the facility. A Gentell Certified Wound and Product Specialist conducted an in-person bedside wound evaluation and recommended a customized treatment plan to the facility staff, based on years of clinical data and experience.
The treatment protocol included a Gentell Calcium Alginate primary dressing to help maintain a moist healing environment. A Gentell Silicone Super Absorbent secondary dressings was applied to absorb exudate while protecting fragile skin. Medical grade honey was also included in the treatment regimen to provide broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage. Additionally, clinical nursing home staff received Gentell’s targeted training on proper wound hygiene, daily dressing changes, and patient repositioning to prevent further pressure injuries. Gentell reinforced this education with monthly topical wound care literature to inform caregivers about best practices and latest clinical advancements.
RESULTS

After approximately one month of treatment, the patient’s wound size decreased dramatically. Healing progressed consistently without infection or setback, demonstrating measurable improvement in both tissue health and exudate control. The wound resolved without incident before next expected assessment on 4/3/2025. Without Gentell’s intervention this wound may have failed to heal—potentially leading to severe complications and costly hospital visits. Instead, the patient healed faster, remained stable within the nursing facility, and avoided additional medical expenses.
Gentell’s solution delivered both clinical and economic benefits. By reducing wound healing times, preventing rehospitalization, and empowering clinical staff with continuous education, Gentell helps achieve meaningful cost savings and improved patient outcomes. With hundreds of advanced wound care products and decades of expertise, Gentell continues to redefine total wound care—delivering healing, value, and dignity to every patient.
